Run a pickup basketball night without the group chat

Keep the chat for banter. Take the night’s list, cap, waiver, and fee on one sign-up link.

The group chat works when eight friends play. It stops working when the run grows. The thread gets long, half of it is muted, someone shows up who never claimed a spot, and the gym fits fewer people than the thread.

The fix is one sign-up link where the list is the source of truth. Keep the chat for banter. Stop taking the night's attendance in it.

What changes when sign-ups leave the chat

  • The list is real. Players claim a spot on a sign-up page. A reaction in the chat is not a spot.
  • The cap holds. Set the maximum for the gym. Once it is full, new sign-ups go on the waitlist.
  • A drop opens a spot you fill. Players can leave until 30 minutes before start. You then move the next waitlist player onto the list from check-in. You do not have to post that a spot opened, and the list does not reshuffle by itself.
  • The waiver is on the page. Players accept your drop-in waiver before they play. The league owner can download a signed-waiver log from Settings.
  • The fee is listed up front. Set a per-night fee, players choose cash or e-transfer, and see who's paid at a glance (prepaid weeks supported). The showroom run is $12 CAD.
  • Sign-ups close on time. Close them a set number of minutes before tip-off. The default is 60 minutes, so you can plan the courts.

Making teams

After check-in, Team Builder can split players across courts at random or by position. Friends who signed up together stay on the same side. On Pro and Enterprise, check-in also builds Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers in the dashboard so you can see who keeps showing up. The full setup is in the drop-in sign-up guide.

How it works

  1. Create a free account at sign-up.
  2. Create a drop-in session with the gym, time, cap, fee, and waiver. Repeat it if the run is weekly.
  3. Post the link once in the chat and pin it.
  4. Players sign up on their phones. When the run is full, extra players go on the waitlist.
  5. Check players in at the door, see who's paid, and run.

League Basic is free and covers 1 active drop-in session, digital waivers, and up to 50 players (1 admin). Pro ($19.99 CAD/month) raises that to 10 active drop-in sessions, 150 players, and up to 3 admins. Enterprise ($99.99 CAD/month) has unlimited drop-ins and unlimited admins, with a 30-day trial and no card to start. There are no setup fees, and you can pause anytime from Settings.

When My League Portal is not the right fit

  • If the run is small and you never hit capacity, the group chat may be enough.
  • You want a native app with push notifications. My League Portal runs in the phone's browser. There is nothing to install from an app store. If your group mainly needs team RSVPs with push alerts, BenchApp, TeamSnap, or Spond may suit you better.

FAQ

Do players need an account or an app?

No account is required. A guest can join from the phone browser with a name and phone. There is no app to download.

What if someone signs up and does not show?

Check-in at the door records who actually came. On Pro and Enterprise, those check-ins feed Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers in your dashboard so you can see regulars over time.

Can the run repeat every week?

Yes. A session can repeat weekly, every two weeks, or monthly. Each upcoming date counts as an active session, so a long weekly run needs Pro (10 active sessions) or Enterprise (no limit). Basic allows one active session at a time.

Is it free?

League Basic is free for one active drop-in session at a time.
